NORTH COAST SKATERS START THE RACING SEASON WITH THE 2011 OHIO INVITATIONAL MEET
Several North Coast Skaters spent a long, but exciting weekend racing in the Ohio Invitational Meet held at Cleveland Heights Community Center the weekend of Oct. 29 & 30. For a couple of our young skaters, this was their very first meet. Our rookie racers rose to the occasion and turned in some good times, learned some new racing skills, made some new friends from other clubs, and made us very proud. Despite the long waits between races (due to the record number of skaters at the meet) and some very challenging competition in their groups, our skaters skated with enthusiasm & determination. Adam skated some incredible sprints for his first meet & had some great aggressive starts. Adam finished 8th in a really tough Pony B Boys class. Way to go Adam !! Keep up the good work! Julia, also skating her first meet (with a smile on her face for every single lap the entire weekend, i might add), had some great starts and a few very skillful passes! For her efforts, Julia earned a 4th place finish in the Pee Wee Girls division. Awesome skating, Julia!! There's no stopping you now! Coach Paul, ended the weekend with some very fast times for most of his races and an overall 8th place finish in the Open Men's class. Nice skating, Coach Paul! Kim had a very fun time skating in a division dominated by teenage girls - what a ride!!! Kim finished 6th overall in the Open Women's division. All the results are now posted on the Ohio Speedskating website at www.ohiospeedskating,com. We commend all our clubbies, who gave it their all at the meet - we are very proud of you & your efforts in all your races - you are superstars!! See you at the next meet.

See you on the ice!
PLEASE... SKATE THE MEETS!!!!!
We highly encourage our club skaters to skate any meets they are able during the season, especially the local meets. Skating meets provides skaters the opportunity to develop racing skills and to use & improve the skills we work on at club practices. Skating meets on a regular basis throughout the season is critical for skaters who want to advance beyond a novice level in the sport. Skating the meets also helps skaters to develop confidence, speed, & perseverance and gives them the opportunity to meet new friends & learn by watching the more advanced skaters race. Skating the meets helps to develop a sense of pride as an individual skater & as a club member. More club members skating a meet helps to develop a sense of team and support for all our club skaters. It is always nice to have a bigger cheering section when you are racing and to have a little more support when you need it.
Perhaps, more importantly, skating a meet early in the season affords you the chance to establish baseline times for each racing distance so that coaches can help you to develop a "training plan" & goals. Coaches can then work with you specifically to meet your goals for the upcoming season. This is very important to do at the beginning of the season if you expect a successful season.
Skating the state meet at the end of the season allows the skater to realize the full extent of their hard work & dedication throughout the season & is the "payoff" for all their time & effort. The "special events" page of this website lists the upcoming meets for each new season as the information becomes available along with links to more information, entry forms, etc. for these meets. Please make it a priority to check this page on a regular basis and mark your calendars so that you are ready to skate the meets. We can only improve the success of our club members by improving the rate of participation by our club skaters at meets. Our club's coaches work very hard on an all volunteer basis to insure that all our club skaters become the best skaters they can be with respect to individual abilities, goals, and skating levels. Please reward your coaches by showing them that you appreciate their time & efforts - SKATE THE MEETS!!!!!!!!!

NORTH COAST SKATERS SHINE 2011 OHIO STATE MEET
On Saturday, Feb., 26, 2011 Short track speedskaters from all over Ohio gathered at the Cleveland Heights Rec. Center to skate for State Championships. Several North Coast Club skaters, most of them skating their first meet ever, put on their game faces & really got after it! Nash, Mallorey, Jarod, and Maggie got their first taste of what our sport is really all about. All the hard work they expended throughout the season paid off in trophies & a sense of real accomplishment.
Mallorey stole the show & the hearts of the spectators as she skated her way to a 3rd place finish in the Tiny Tots Girls division. Fabulous job, Mallorey!
Nash created alot of excitement on the track by exploding off the starts & making incredible passes in all his races. Nash earned a 4th place finish in the Tiny Tots Boys division - awesome skating for your first meet, Nash!!
Jarod, who had a tough group to skate in, showed amazing strength & endurance for a first-timer & took home a 2nd place trophy in the Pony Boys B division for his spectacular skating. Terrific job, Jarod!
Maggie had a great first meet & really impressed us with her ability to apply the skills she has worked hard to learn over this season to racing, and by skating well under pressure. Maggie's persistence netted her a 1st place finish in the Senior Women division. Way to go, Maggie!!
Kim finished in 2nd place in the Master Women 40+ division.
Our state meet skaters should be so proud of their performances & accomplishments. Thanks for representing our club so well. The smiles on the faces of our kids as they received their trophies was worth it all!! Keep up the good work & we look forward to another season of hard work & fun.
To all of our club members & their families who were unable to skate the meet, but that took time out of their weekend to come and support their fellow clubbies, we thank you sincerely for your support - a cheering section is a great morale booster & motivator for our racers! We hope you were able to learn something more about short tract speedskating by spectating & we hope the experience motivated you to work towards competing in the first meet next season! If you have the desire, a goal, and a good work ethic, we can help get you there! To our club parents - thanks for giving us the opportunity to work with your children - they are a joy to us & teach us so much. Thank you for all your efforts in getting our skaters to the point where they are confident enough & excited enough to skate the meets. Again, was the smile on their face at the awards ceremony worth it, or what??!!
